Filipino Scholars Tackle Enduring Relevance of Martin Luther

The Philosophy Department and the Divinity School, in partnership with the International Center for Mission Studies in Asia, hosted the Philippine conference on “500 Years of Reformation: The Enduring Relevance of Martin Luther”.

Dr. Christian Hohmann, a scholar and the regional pastor in the Institute for Mission, Ecumenism and Global Responsibility in the Protestant Church of Westphalia, Germany discussed the global relevance of Luther’s Reformation for the plenary.

The Philippine conference was part of the global celebration of the importance of the Reformation with the primary aim of gathering theologians, historians, scholars, and ministry practitioners to participate and present papers on the specified theme using the Filipino perspective.

Held late October, the two-day conference gathered Filipino scholars from Southern Christian College, University of San Carlos, Cebu Theological Forum and Silliman. It also provided the venue where participants discussed the major theme of Reformation and its links with ecumenism and extremism, music and media, liberation and politics, and the bible and the church.
