PRESS STATEMENT
Clarification on VP Binay’s Visit
Issue Date: 9 December 2015
Vice President Jejomar C. Binay and Senator Gregorio Honasan II visited the Silliman University campus on December 8. His visit was upon the invitation and sponsorship of a duly recognized campus organization in Silliman.
Vice President Binay and Senator Honasan talked to students, faculty, staff and the public at an event organized by the sponsoring campus organization. It was not a regular or university-designated event.
As emphasized in the press statement that the University issued last week, Silliman does not and will not favor any political candidate or party. This does not, however, preclude registered organizations to rent facilities on campus for purely academic events where they may invite political candidates of their choice to reflect their views on relevant issues that affect our communities and country. Political rallies are not allowed. In no way should the same event require attendance of students, faculty, staff or any of the University contractors or suppliers.
Given their incumbent positions, Vice President Binay and Senator Honasan were welcomed by the University President. ###
