Candidates for Mayor Present Plans for Dumaguete in Forum at Luce
Three out of the four candidates for Mayor of Dumaguete City graced the Mayoral Candidates Forum organized by Silliman University on February 24 at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium.
Mr. Dindo P. Generoso, Mr. Quirino A. Ramirez and Atty. Felipe Antonio B. Remollo attended the forum and discussed their respective plans for Dumaguete. Not present was Mr. Woodrow Maquiling Sr., the incumbent Vice Mayor.
Mr. Generoso highlighted the need to optimize the potential of the southern part of Dumaguete for livelihood and development projects. Mr. Ramirez presented issues that he envisions resolved, emphasizing eradication of corruption as key in addressing unemployment and poverty. Atty. Remollo tackled his revised version of the masterplan for Dumaguete, started 15 years ago when he was Dumaguete mayor, highlighting solutions to decongesting traffic in the city center and making more efficient government and business transactions.
A panel of reactors representing different sectors and industries in Dumaguete engaged the candidates with their questions and comments.
The forum, which was attended by students and teachers, was organized as part of the General Education Integrative Learning Lectures and in coordination with the School of Public Affairs and Governance and the Office of Alumni and External Affairs Office.
