US Consul General Tours Silliman U
On his first trip to Dumaguete City on July 27, United States Embassy Consul General Mr. Michael Schimmel visited Silliman University, the country's oldest American university.
Mr. Schimmel (third from left) made a courtesy call on Silliman Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Betsy Joy B. Tan (second from left), who concurrently serves as Acting President while Dr. Ben S. Malayang III is on official leave. He was also welcomed, along with Ms Jocelyn Tiongco-Ty (fourth from left), Special Citizens Services Assistant, by (L-R) Mr. Moses Atega, Assistant at the Office of Alumni and External Affairs, University Librarian Mrs. Lorna T. Yso and American Studies Resource Center (ASRC) Librarian Mrs. Nenith Kalibo.
Silliman is one of few universities in the Philippines hosting the ASRC, a center which features a rich collection of printed and multimedia materials about the American way of life. The ASRC is open to the public for free.
The visit of Mr. Schimmel to Dumaguete was part of the Embassy's outreach program for its American citizens in the area.
