Country’s First Journalism School Outside Manila Turns 50
The College of Mass Communication, which is the first journalism school established outside Manila, celebrates its 50th year this month.
Themed “SU MassCom @ 50: Remaining Relevant in the Digital Age”, the golden jubilee celebration kicks off with a worship service at the Silliman University Church on August 21.
Highlights of the College’s 50th anniversary celebration include screening of the journalistic film “Spotlight” at the Emilio T. Yap Hall on August 22, visit to the gravesite of DYSR founder Mr. Henry Mack at the America Cemetery in Daro (August 23), and launch of the history book “From Grassroots to MassCom” by Dr. Crispin C. Maslog, the College’s first Filipino Director, on August 25 at the Multipurpose Room of the Instructional Media and Technology Center.
In the evening of August 25, the Silliman University Mass Communication alumni association, in partnership with the College, organizes the Golden Jubilee Awards Night at Bethel Guest House. It is during this event where the College recognizes some of its alumni who have excelled in their chosen relevant fields.
