Alumna Competes with Team USA in Rio Olympics
A graduate of the School of Basic Education is among athletes representing the United States in the ongoing Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Paula Lynn P. Obañana is playing badminton, the same game she made a niche in back in High School in Silliman University. She was a celebrated varsity player in badminton as early as her high school years, raking in medals in national and international tournaments.
She finished High School in Silliman in 2002, and also Early Childhood and Elementary. Together with her parents, Paula migrated to the United States shortly after she graduated from college in Manila. Both her parents worked in Silliman University: her father was the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent and her mother, a faculty at the College of Nursing.
Two other sport events that Silliman has produced Olympians in are archery and high jump. In archery were Lisa Ygnalaga, Jennifer Chan and Mark Javier; Simeon Toribio won bronze in high jump.
