2 Former Finance Secretaries to Speak at Luce
Two of the country’s former Finance Secretaries will share their views on the economic prospects of the Philippines in a special convocation on August 12 at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium.
Central Bank Monetary Board Member Mrs. Juanita Dy-Amatong and former Land Bank President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Margarito B. Teves will open the General Education Integrative Lectures Program as its first speakers for the 110th Founders Day of Silliman University.
Mrs. Amatong, a Sillimanian, who served as the first woman Secretary of the Department of Finance from 2003 to 2005, will speak on monetary and other economic concerns of the country. Her successor, Mr. Teves, on the other hand, will tackle the current state of the Philippine economy.
There is a brewing interest in the lectures by the two former Finance Secretaries, especially following the recent downgrading of the credit rating of the United States by Standard and Poor’s and amidst talks on how that impacts on the Philippines.
Both Mrs. Amatong and Mr. Teves hail from Negros Oriental. Mrs. Amatong sits in the Board of Trustees of Silliman University as Chairperson.
