Sillimanians Win in 2nd Philippine Archery Cup
Five Sillimanians from the School of Basic Education won gold, silver and bronze in the 2nd Philippine Archery Cup – Visayas Leg on September 23 to 25, 2016.
Ninth grader Nicole Marie Tagle bagged gold in the Junior Recurve Women’s category of the 72 Round, and was awarded with silver in the Junior Recurve Women – Olympic Round. Tenth grader Phoebe Nicole Amistoso clinched the bronze medal for the Junior Recurve Women’s category of the 72 Round, and seized the gold in the Junior Recurve Women – Olympic Round.
Meanwhile, seventh grader Gabriel Flores won bronze in the Cub Boys category – Olympic Round. Joie Dumadag, also a seventh grader, sealed the bronze medal in the Olympic Round of the Cub Girls category.
Third grader Naina Tagle also bagged silver in the Yeoman Girls’ category of the 72 Round.
The five represented the Negros Island Archery Club (NIRAC) and was trained by Coach Crisaldo Merto.
When asked how they prepared for the cup, Nicole Marie Tagle said that each step was tied with discipline and commitment.
The 2nd Philippine Archery Cup is hosted by World Archery Philippines. Over 160 archers from different parts of the country competed in the Visayas leg to qualify for the national finals in January 2017. According to World Archery Philippines, an athlete must win in two out of three legs in order to qualify for the said finals.
