Alumna Named Outstanding Filipino by Metrobank Foundation

Months after being awarded Outstanding Sillimanian, an alumna has made it to this year’s list of Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos.

Col. Jocelyn P. Turla, who was one of the five Outstanding Sillimanian Awardees (OSA) last August, joins the elite roster of Outstanding Filipinos honored by the Metrobank Foundation and its partners for their significant contribution and dedication in their chosen profession. She will receive a trophy and a cash prize of P500,000.

After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Silliman in 1981, Col. Turla proceeded to study medicine and later applied for pediatrics residency training at the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center. She has been in the service for 27 years now.

In 2004, right after the wrath of Typhoons Violeta and Winnie, she led a medical team in the towns of Infanta and General Nakar in Quezon to treat thousands of sick and wounded survivors there. She has also initiated health projects in Mindanao, particularly in Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and the Zamboanga Peninsula.

Col. Turla is also a recipient of the Distinguished Star Award for her service as Commanding Office of the Camp Navarro General Hospital, Western Mindanao Command.

Every year, the Metrobank Foundation recognizes Filipinos, especially soldiers and teachers, who have made significant contributions to the communities they serve.
