Economics Senior Attends Entrepreneurship Exchange Program in Japan

A senior Economics major is bound for Japan to represent the Philippines in an exchange program sponsored by the Japanese Government.

Genin Raya V. Amiscaray is among the 12 college and graduate students from the Philippines who will be visiting Japan from October 25 to November 1 under the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS). The theme of the program focuses on Female (Social) Entrepreneurship.

Under the program, Genin and her fellow delegates will be exploring various cities and prefectures in Japan. There, they will undergo various exposure trips and activities that aim to promote a global understanding of Japan’s economics, society, politics, and foreign affairs, and to further deepen mutual understanding among the youth of Japan, Timor Leste, India, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Genin has constantly excelled both in academics and extra-curricular involvements. Aside from being a consistent honor student, she is involved with Ang Sandigan and the Heart for a Child advocacy program, which she started after being crowned Miss Silliman in 2015. She represented the Negros Island Region in the National Youth Parliament in Iloilo last June; she is also Cebu-bound to attend the prestigious Aboitiz Leaders Summit next month.

JENESYS started in 2007 as an initiative of the Japanese Government through the Japan International Cooperation Center, in partnership with the National Youth Commission in the Philippines.

Several Sillimanians have gone to Japan through the said program under various themes, which include disaster preparedness and mitigation, and understanding Japanese pop culture.
