ACUCA Newsletter Features ‘FIRE’
The ACUCA Newsletter, a publication of the Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia (ACUCA), featured in its recent issue an article on the University's quad-focal function of faith, instruction, research and extension (FIRE) in the context of environmental sustainability.
Titled “Environmental Sustainability on FIRE”, the article discusses Silliman's conscious integration of an environmental perspective in the areas of faith formation, instruction, research and extension. It reinforces an institutional environmental advocacy, which is a component of the eight-year Strategic Plan.
Its release was timed with the ACUCA Management Conference held September 15 to 17 at Kwansei Gakuin University in Kobe, Japan.

Meanwhile, Silliman University Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Betsy Joy B. Tan represented President Dr. Ben S. Malayang III, who is country representative, in the seven-country Executive Committee during the ACUCA Management Conference.
The Conference provided a venue where member institutions discussed common areas of interest on this year's topic: “ACUCA Network Model of Sustainability Education, Student Mobility Scheme and E-learning.”
Together with Dr. Tan was Silliman University Church Pastor to the Parish Rev. Jonathan Pia who attended separate sessions that tackled how the connection between faith and the environment can be better articulated in academic institutions.
