Fine Arts Majors Unleash Creativity on Canvass
A collection of 72 art pieces depicting abstract and real-life interpretations of daily occurrences on canvass by Fine Arts majors of Silliman University was unveiled on October 3 at the Silliman Hall.
The exhibit of paintings in pencil, acrylic, pen and ink, and mixed media and some installation art works is titled “Kaagi 2011″, which in English is roughly translated as “experience”. It falls part of the semestral culminating program of the Fine Arts Department of the College of Performing and Visual Arts to showcase the creativity of its students.
Fine Arts majors, whose work are on exhibit until October 7, were challenged to create pieces that give life to the different approaches to art. The freshmen’s collection is based on realistic concept in the form of still life drawings, landscape, portraiture and abstract art. Sophomore students dared to “think out of the box” by creating art pieces that dealt with various media but restricted to materials only found in classrooms. Large scale works in the form of mural work and electronic media sum up the collection of the junior students.
Fine Arts Department Chairperson Ms Yvette Malahay-Kim, who doubles as exhibit curator along with faculty members Mr. Gerard Jutsze Pamate and Ms Elena Lim, said: “Kaagi aims to inspire students and encourage them to strive hard and create the best art pieces. It also provides a venue for them to experience what it is like to become an artist in the real world.”
Featured in “Kaagi” are young artists Stephen Abanto, Jess Andrew Abode, Iris Abrigo, Edlyn Abrio, Iris Armogenia, Racquel Antonio, Sabrina Skye Benito, Jetmore Banot, Hezron Daniel Cadayday, Ramon Adonis Catacutan, Robert John Callora, Dominic Gian Centeno, Adrian Von Colina, John Paul Condicion, Hanz, Eduel de Barras, La Juliane Ferido, Geralyn Gay Guinto, Ramsid Labe, Sha’ianne Lawas, Jasmine Rica Maceren, Channarote Montehermoso, Maria Krishna Rose Pinero, Onna Rhea Quizo, Arthel Tagnipez, Ervin Taring, Luther Dean Tirol, Nabil Randy Padilla, Florena Arzelle Sun, David Immanuel Teves.
