5 SUHS students bag top awards at the 11th APPSAM Nat’l Assembly

Five Silliman University (SU) High School students clinched major awards in the different events of the recently concluded 11th National Student Leadership Assembly and Talent Fair on November 9-11, 2023, at the DepEd Baguio Teachers’ Camp, Baguio City.
Of twenty participating schools, twelfth grader Seve Nigel Tuale was hailed as the overall champion in the Extemporaneous Speech event. STEAM student Franchesca Alyanna Clavel and grade ten student Yuichi Cardenas placed second and fifth in the Essay Writing category, respectively. Tenth grader Karla Concepcion Fontelo secured third place in the Interpretive Reading event. HUMMS student Rania Minalang ranked fourth in the Poetry Writing contest.
SU sent eight senior high school delegates, including Jylan Marlee Solis, Angelina Margarette Castro, Sean Eigen Villanueva, Shiena Marjurie Jambalos, and Fia Mariz Villavito. Andrea De Jesus, a tenth grader, completed the roster of representatives from the junior high school delegation. The other delegates participated in various competitions, such as science, mathematics, spelling, general information, poster making, and oration.
The Association of Philippine Private School Administrators and Mentors (APPSAM) is an annual gathering of junior and senior high school students to learn from the different plenary speakers and prepare them for the challenges they will encounter as student leaders.
Karla Concepcion Fontelo, a tenth grader, landed third place in the Interpretive Reading category.
