ND Department Leads Campaign for Health, Wellness

The Nutrition and Dietetics (ND) Department takes the lead in the celebration of Nutrition Month this July.

Its celebration kicked off with its participation in the annual Nutri-Fit walk on July 8. The Silliman delegation won the award of Biggest Contingent for Private Schools, with its participants coming from different student organizations in the University.

As part of its extension program, the ND Department has also scheduled nutrition caravans across July, promoting health and wellness to students at three public elementary schools: Cadawinonan Elementary School, Calindagan Elementary School and West City Elementary School.

Earlier, it held a vegetable cooking contest among students, promoting the theme “Pagkain ng Gulay Ugaliin, Araw-araw Itong Ihain”. This was to showcase the different ways of preparing vegetables in order for more to appreciate their taste and make them become a staple dish on the table.

Targeting more beneficiaries, teachers and students are teaming up for a feeding program that the Department will sponsor towards the end of the month in front of the Cathedral Church. This will benefit street children, indigents and other members of the community.

To culminate the month-long celebration, the ND Department, in partnership with the City Nutrition Office, will conduct a quiz bowl on the 26th and a free diet counseling session for the public at the Quezon Park.

Silliman's ND program is the first in the Philippines to receive Level 1 Accreditation from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities.
