2 Sillimanians Qualify for National Music Camp

Two young alumni from the College of Mass Communication made it to 3rd Elements National Singing and Songwriting Camp.

Primy Joy Cane (Class 2009) and Earnest Hope Tinambacan (Class 2005) were among the hopefuls who passed the online and live auditions handled by a group of popular music artists headed by renowned composer Mr. Ryan Cayabyab.

Only a total of 60 applicants (30 singers and 30 songwriters) from around the country were accepted into the Camp, taking place this year on November 18 to 22 in Dumaguete City. 

Cane is presently a news anchor and reporter at ABS-CBN Cagayan de Oro, while Tinambacan is actively involved in a theater group that utilizes the performing arts in advancing their environmental advocacy.

Silliman University is among the major partners of the Camp since it started in 2010. Dumaguete has also remained the host city.

The Camp is presented by 7101 Music Nation, which is headed by Chief Executive Officer Mr. Julio Sy Jr., a native of Dumaguete.

Participants undertake different modules aimed at enhancing their familiarity with the Filipino music industry, sharpening their talents and skills, and exposing them to the basic operations and the business side of the music industry.

Big names in the music industry take turns in training the participants. This year, speakers and facilitators include: Joey Ayala, Noel Cabangon, Jim Paredes, Gabby Alipe of Urbandub, Ebe Dancel, Gloc-9, Jungee Marcel, Mike Villegas, Rey Valera, Raimund Marasigan, Gary Granada, Aia de Leon, Jay Durias, Christina Luna, Debbie Gaite, Clarissa Ocampo, Audie Gemora and Gary Valenciano.

Capping the Camp is a music concert of the participants together with their trainers at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium.
