Justice and Peace Center Coordinator Dr. Muriel Orevillo-Montenegro was in Neuendettelsau, Germany as one of the resource persons in a four-day conference that tackled the connection between religion and development.
Dr. Montenegro spoke on “Capitalism as Religion” on October 22, the first day of the conference. It shed light on the general theme of “Religion and Development” which sought to draw out answers to eight specific questions, including: “What is exactly in religion that can make development happen better?”
About 65 representatives of faith-based development organizations and a number of leading experts from different continents attended the conference. Dr. Montenegro's participation resulted from an invitation from the Head of the Department for Mission and Intercultural Studies of Mission Einewelt.
The conference was co-sponsored by the Lutheran Federation and Mission Einewelt (Center for Partnership, Development and Mission) of the Lutheran Church in Bavaria.
