Research Director Elected UGAT VP for Visayas
Anthropology professor and Research Director Dr. Enrique G. Oracion is the new vice president for the Visayas of the Ugnayang Pang-AghamTao (UGAT) or the Anthropological Association of the Philippines.
He was elected during UGAT's 34th Annual Conference held October 25 to 27 at the University of San Carlos in Cebu City.
The conference, taking on the theme “Culture and Well-being: Conceptualizations, Appropriations, Implications,” was attended by over a hundred anthropologists and anthropology enthusiasts in the country.
At the same conference, Dr. Oracion presented a paper titled “One River, Diverse Lives: Debunking the One Size Fits All Approach in Environmental Interventions.” His paper was based on a study he conducted on the socioeconomic conditions of households along the Pagatban River located between Basay and Bayawan City in southwestern Negros Oriental. The study was part of the multidisciplinary research project funded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
In a recent development, Silliman's Anthropology Program was shortlisted for the distinction Center of Development from CHED.
