10 Women Candidates to Present Plans in Forum
Ten female candidates running for public office in the May 13 elections share their respective views on different issues affecting both women and the larger community in a forum on May 6 at the Silliman Hall.
“Pakigharong: Facing the Issues Woman-to-Woman” seeks to provide a venue where women leaders can be engaged on their platforms of government. It also aims to facilitate dialogue with the audience on the candidates’ views on a wide range of topics, including reproductive health, employment and livelihood opportunities, and the environment.
Invited are the following: Prof. Leonor M. Briones (KAAKBAY partylist representative), Hon. Jocelyn Sy-Limkaichong (candidate for Governor of Negros Oriental), Hon. Karen Villanueva (candidate for Representative of the 2nd district of Negros Oriental); and for the position of Board Member of Negros Oriental: Hon. Leland Estacion Hon. Jessica Koppin, Hon. The forum is organized by the Justice and Peace Center and the Center for Gender Studies and Development, in partnership with the Christian Women’s Association of the Silliman University Church and the Dumaguete City Church of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines.
Women representing the church, academe and civil society comprise majority of the audience.
