Computer Eng’g Sophomore Bags Gold in Archery
Sophomore Computer Engineering major Marie Crizabelle Merto bagged the gold medal in the women’s recurve category in the recently held Philippine National Games.
Merto won against her opponent who already belongs to the Philippine Archery Team.
Her outstanding performance in the national sports event, which was organized by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee, elevated her status as an aspiring athlete to a member of the country’s national archery team. This entitles her to qualify for the Olympic Games and the Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar this December.
Since her high school days in Silliman, Merto has already been considered a world-class athlete. She was once listed as one of the 80 best female archers in the world.
Merto joins the ranks of distinguished Sillimanian archers who have brought honor to the country. Three of them have represented the country in the Olympics: Lisa Ygnalaga, Jennifer Chan and Mark Javier.
