Weekly Sillimanian, Portal Undergo Journalism Workshop

The members of the editorial boards and staff of the two official student publications of Silliman University participated in a journalism workshop whole day of August 10 at the Mary Marquis Smith Hall.

Close to 60 staff members were present along with their respective advisers: Prof. Warlito Caturay, Jr. for the Weekly Sillimanian, the school paper, and Prof. Sonia Sygaco for the Portal, the yearbook. 

Speakers were Silliman alumni who are distinguished practicing journalists in government and private media: Ms Minerva Newman, Regional Director of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) on “Campus Publication Management”; Ms Rachelle Nessia, Regional Editor of the PIA and Manager of PIA Cebu on “Digital Journalism and Editing”; Ms Nathalie Adel Tomada, Assistant Entertainment Editor of The Philippine Star on “Feature Writing”; and Mr. Joeberth Ocao, Assignment Editor at The Freeman on “News Writing”.
