SU to host national conference on local, national history
Silliman University (SU) will host the 44th National Conference on Local and National History of the Philippine National Historical Society, Inc. (PNHS) on October 19-21, 2023.
The event will gather historians, researchers, academics, and students from all over the Philippines at the SU campus.
With the theme “RETROPOLIS: Discoveries and Rediscoveries in Philippine History,” the conference will feature interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research papers about Philippine history that cut across academic disciplines, historical periods, and geographic spaces.
The conference is co-sponsored by the Committee on Historical Research of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Philippine Social Science Council.
The PNHS said on its official website that the annual conference aims to encourage and undertake the study of Philippine history and has been its major platform for the “dynamic production of historical knowledge and dissemination of outputs” from historical research.
Through the conference, PNHS also said they aim to encourage academics, cultural workers, and researchers to be active partners in promoting historical research, “resulting in the cultivation of national consciousness.”
Selected and refereed papers from PNHS conferences are also published in the Journal of History, PNHS’ official publication.
Founded in 1941, PNHS is the oldest professional organization of historians and practitioners of history in the Philippines. Those who are interested in participating may register at https://forms.gle/Pxv27Zwsv1HxJQm57
