SU students join 50th ACUCA Student Camp in Taiwan
Two Silliman University (SU) students joined around 60 emerging student leaders from across Asia at the 50th Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia (ACUCA) Student Camp, held August 17-21, 2026, at Chung Yuan Christian University in Taoyuan, Taiwan.
Representing SU were Maria Alexandra Victoria H. Mejos, a second-year BS Public Administration student, and Seve Nigel L. Tuale, a third-year BS Nursing student. They joined participants from ACUCA member institutions in the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, India, and Hong Kong.
With the theme “Communities for the Good,” the student camp provided a platform for young leaders to examine contemporary challenges, including rapid technological innovation, economic vulnerability, environmental degradation, and the changing international security landscape.
Through discussions, shared activities, and cultural exchanges, participants explored different perspectives and reflected on the role of faith in responding to present-day social challenges. The program also sought to strengthen relationships among students of ACUCA member institutions and encourage them to consider how they can contribute to the well-being of their respective communities.
The camp aimed to develop the participants’ communication and leadership skills in an international setting, foster mutual understanding and friendship across cultures, and inspire young people to take initiative in addressing issues affecting their communities.
Activities included keynote talks, small-group discussions, a cultural night, and a cultural field trip. Throughout the five-day gathering, Mejos and Tuale interacted with fellow student leaders from across Asia and took part in discussions on social issues and cultural exchange.
The ACUCA Student Camp brings together students from the association’s member institutions and provides opportunities for intercultural engagement, collaborative learning, and reflection on faith, leadership, and social responsibility.
