A statement on Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo’s withdrawal from Silliman University’s Board of Trustees

On December 5, 2023, Mayor Felipe Antonio B. Remollo submitted to Silliman University’s (SU) Board of Trustees (BOT), through its chairperson, Mr. Ricardo A. Balbido Jr., his letter to withdraw as a trustee. He cited his role as City Mayor as a potential complication because in consideration of his general constituents’ welfare, he may make decisions or actions that may be deemed offensive by some stakeholders of the University.

The BOT respects Mayor Remollo’s decision and expresses its gratitude for his professionalism and continued support to his alma mater.

The BOT’s mandate is to oversee the general operations of the University, establishing policies related to programs and development. In Silliman, the Board’s composition includes 15 members, with equal representations from the Silliman University Foundation, Inc., the Silliman University Alumni Association, Inc. and United Church of Christ in the Philippines.
