Alumni Update November 8 – 14, 2021
Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee (OSA) Dr. Nella Fe Pineda-Marcon represented the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, held at the SEC Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, from October 31 to November 12, 2021.
COP26, hosted by the United Kingdom in partnership with Italy, is under the presidency of Alok Sharma. The COP26 Coalition is a UK-based civil society coalition of groups and individuals mobilizing around climate justice during COP26. Coalition members include environment and development NGOs, trade unions, grassroots community campaigns, faith groups, youth groups, migrant and racial justice networks, to name a few.
Dr. Marcon was a panelist speaker last November 8, 2021 under the conference event “Working Class Struggles Against Climate Change: Union Stories From the Frontline.”
Marcon represented the NYSNA, a union of 42,000 frontline nurses united together for strength at work, our practice, safe staffing, and healthcare for all. NYSNA is New York’s largest union and professional association for registered nurses.
Marcon completed High School in 1977 and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1981 at Silliman University (SU). She then pursued her medical studies at Perpetual Help College of Medicine, graduating in 1987. She was recognized by SU as an OSA in the field of Disaster Relief and Climate Justice Advocacy last August 28, 2021.
Currently, Marcon is President of the SU Alumni Association of New York-New Jersey (SUAA NY-NJ) and NYSNA Secretary.
