Alumni Update September 13 – 19, 2021

The Silliman University Alumni Association New York-New Jersey (SUAA NY-NJ) chapter celebrated Silliman University’s 120th Founders Day last August 29, 2021 by holding a picnic  at the Ross Dock Picnic Area, Henry Hudson Drive, Fort Lee, New Jersey.

The large scenic riverfront picnic area just north of the George Washington Bridge was the perfect venue to gather and bond as an alumni chapter.

Before ending her term, SUAA NY-NJ Chapter President Janette B. Abella announced that the chapter will continue to support Silliman University financially, with pledges for Silliman University Church, Silliman University Medical Center, scholarships for financially challenged students, and for the University’s Modernization of the Library.

The newly elected chapter officers for the 2021-2023 term were sworn in during the alumni gathering.

The new set of officers are the following: Dr. Nella Fe Pineda-Marcon – president; Brix Pajunar-Palin – vice president NY; Vivian Tabaranza – vice president NJ, Eppielyn Ebarle Villegas – secretary; Lucille Bael Galvez – assistant secretary; Fe Tita Dompor – treasurer; Arlene Tia – assistant treasurer; Doreen Camino Scott – auditor; Persephone Panajon-Vargas – assistant auditor; Kevin Obate – PRO; and Emma Gornez – assistant PRO.

The SUAA NY-NJ Board of Directors is headed by Janette Baloyo Abella (Immediate Past President).

The Ex Officio Members are: Moses Alcala, Samuel Tomale, Noeta Silva, Nenita Caballes Ludh, Elizabeth Lasmarias-Santos, Severlita Cortes-Orendain, Prossy Sevilleno-Dagdayan, Joy Cesario, Mola Dumalag, Flora Mae Ymalay and Emma Gornez. The Chapter’s Advisory Board Members are: Engr. Rene Tuballa, Josephine Palopo Cagara, Dr. Laura Domingo Garcia, Dr. Dely Go, Josephine Juele-Jalandoni, Dr. Evangeline Bravo Manjares, Dr. Felella Kiamco Millman, Joel Pal, Ester Taclob Suelto and Dr. Lowel Taclob.

SAAI Elects New Officers

The Silliman Alumni Association, Inc. (SAAI) elected new members to its board to replace those whose terms were expiring. During its first virtual Alumni Convention held last August 26, 2021, amendments to the SAAI by-laws that included a shift from Board of Directors to Board of Trustees were also discussed and approved. The SAAI Board together with the newly elected Trustees held their first meeting last September 11, 2021. During the meeting, the board elected the association’s officers for 2021-2022. Here is the list of the new set of officers and Trustees.
