Alumni Updates April 24 – 30, 2017
The Dr. Wilmer Heceta Trust Fund for Financial Assistance, which will provide scholarship support to medical students at the Silliman University Medical School, was recently set up by the Silliman University Acacia Alumni Chapter. The Chapter donated $2,000 dollars as seed fund to provide financial assistance to aspiring doctors who want to pursue and/or continue their medical education. Friends of the SU-Acacia Alumni Chapter also donated Php 100,000 pesos to the said fund which will be open to medical students starting June 2017.
Present during the signing of the scholarship Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and turnover of the funds were: Dr. Renato P. Querubin and Fabiana Yrad-Malayang, both current members of the Acacia Alumni Chapter Board of Directors with Vice President for Development Prof. Jane Annette L. Belarmino, Dr. Walden R. Ursos (Dean of the Medicine School), Dr. Elizabeth Heceta-Moleta, and Dr. Edna Gladys T. Calingacion (Dean of Student Services).
The Acacia Alumni Chapter covers Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Western Pennsylvania in the United States of America.

The Silliman Alumni Association, Inc. (SAAI) Davao Chapter, in its meeting on April 1, 2017 elected new officers for the chapter.
The following Chapter officers are: Yasmin M. Alih (President), Kristel Ann A. Punu (Vice President),
Kathryn Dayola-Taganas (Secretary), Leah Aleeza Duran (Treasurer), Jose Arnelito A. Paña (Auditor), and Andy N. Rara (PRO). Outgoing Chapter president Susan Palad expressed her appreciation to all the members for their all-out support to the various projects that were undertaken during her term. It was noted that the Chapter’s successful hosting of the Sadya Mindanaw in 2015 was well appreciated by the various alumni attendees.
The Davao Alumni Chapter will be sending a contingent to this year’s Sadya Mindanaw in Butuan City this weekend April 28-30, 2017.
