Alumni Updates (January 18-24)

The Silliman Association of New England (SANE) is sponsoring a scholarship program for qualified Silliman students for the next three academic school years. SANE is encouraging other alumni chapters to do the same. Though small in number, the New England group has consistently initiated academic-related programs, such as the SANE Initiative that facilitated the visit of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Vice President for Development of Silliman University to various institutions of higher learning in the U.S. in 2014. Prof. Priscilla Lasmarias Kelso is SANE’s outgoing president.

The Scholarship Committee of the Silliman University Alumni Association of Northern California (SUAANC), chaired by Dr. Rolando Villanueva Magdamo, received a US$2,000 donation from Mrs. Warwina R. Llamera, outgoing member of the SUANNC Board of Directors. The donation was made in honor of Mrs. Llamera’s late husband, Mr. Oscar Llamera, former SUAANC auditor. The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving BBA student in Silliman who has a GPA of at least 3.0.

The College of Mass Communication is celebrating its 50th year anniversary this August. To help drum up the celebration and plan on how to entice many more to mark the date in their calendars, a group of MassCom alumni from different parts of the world has visited the campus recently. The group was composed of Jean Tantano-Arnts (BMC ’80) first vice president of the Silliman University Alumni Association Aloha Chapter, Hawaii; Arni J. Maypa-Onus (BMC ’82); Portia C. Paires (BMC ’81) Fresno, California; Ma. Celestia D. Amor-Ham (BMC ’81) Austin, Texas; Susan B. Palad (BMC ’80), current Davao alumni chapter president; Mitchell P. Duran (BMC ’82) and Elma L. Ababan (BMC ’81).
