Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee (OSA) Dr. Kenneth E. Bauzon was invited as Balik-Talent lecturer on June 22, 2017 at the Silliman University Audio Visual Theater 1.  Dr. Bauzon, a Professor of Political Science at St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, New York, spoke about the “Neoliberal Constraints to National Sovereignty, Democratic Governance, and Development: Cases and Lessons from the Trenches in the Global Struggle Against Neoliberal Globalization.”  The lecture was attended by student from the History and Political Sciences Department, History and Political Society, and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Bauzon graduated from Silliman University High School in 1966 and finished his AB Political Science degree also from Silliman. He received his OSA in 2009 in the field of Political Science.  Bauzon has a PhD in political science from Duke University in Durham, NC USA.

Balik-Talent is a venue where our alumni who have gained expertise in their chosen fields are invited to the University to give lectures to students and to the Silliman community through the Alumni College. The Alumni College, headed by Dr. Edna Gladys T. Calingacion, organizes, facilitates, and monitors lectures, seminars and workshops given by alumni in coordination with the different departments and units in the University.  Dr. Calingacion may be reached at [email protected].


The Awesome Silliman University Class of 1964 led by Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee (OSA) Dr. Leslie E. Bauzon will be celebrating their 53rd Anniversary during Silliman University’s 116th Founders Day.  A number of reunion activities have been scheduled for August 26 – 29, 2017.

In a recent Awesome Class of 1964 volunteer committee meeting held in Ortigas Center, Pasig City on May 11, 2017 the following events will highlight the celebration:

  • Welcome Reunion Lunch, 12:00 noon, August 26, 2017, by host Neptune Velasco Laplagne, at his residence near Silliman Farm, Hibbard Avenue Extension, Brgy. Bantayan, Dumaguete City.
  • Reunion Breakfast, 6:30am, August 27, 2017, to be hosted by Gamaliel M. Aranas, at his ancestral home at 59 San Jose Street, Dumaguete City.
  • Parada Sillimaniana, 1:00pm assembly time, August 27, 2017, in front of the Silliman Hall.
  • Dinner Fellowship, 6:30pm, August 27, 2017, venue will be announce later.

The Awesome Class of 1964 is composed of high school and college alumni that graduated in 1964. In 2014, led by two OSA awardees, Dr. Leslie E. Bauzon and Dr. Perla Rizalina M. Tayko, the class donated Php 100,000.00 pesos to the Trust Fund for Emergency Financial Assistance to Working Students in Silliman.  Working students may avail of a loan from this fund for their personal or school needs.
