Alumni Updates (June 4 – 10)
The Davao Alumni Chapter, led by chapter president, Yasmin M. Alih, pooled together their talents and resources to reach out to the Matigsalog Tribe in Sitio Tribal Village in Datu Salumay, Marilog District, Davao City, last June 2, 2018. They distributed schools supplies to the village children and shared a meal with the tribe. Matigsalog tribal leader Datu Hipolito welcomed the Davao-based alumni group that included Susan Palad, Helen M. Guillergan, Cathryne Dayola-Taganas and Outstanding Sillimanian Fele D. Magdamo. They were also honored with a tribal dance performed by the Matigsalog school children.
The Silliman University Alumni Association-New York/New Jersey Chapter participated in the Philippines Independence Day Parade 2018 held June 3, 2018 along Madison Avenue in New York. Made festive by different Filipino-American groups, the annual parade this year commemorates the 120th anniversary of Philippine independence. It promotes Filipino history, culture and tradition, just as it is an expression of pride and contribution of the migrant community. Held every first Sunday in June, the Philippine Independence Day Parade, Street Fair and Cultural Show is the largest celebration of Philippine Independence outside the Philippines, with the Philippine Independence Day Council, Inc. playing A major role in its planning, preparation and production.
