Alumni Updates (March 7-13)
The Silliman Alumni Association, Inc., SOCSKSARGEN Chapter (South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani & Gensan) held a fellowship last February 27, 2016 at the home of outgoing president Linda Bañas-Alvarez in Kalsangi, Polomolok, South Cotabato. The new set of officers are: Engr. Ronnie Sechong (president), Taqna Sumajit (vice president for Sarangani), Rosalie Abugan-Gregorio (vice president for South Cotabato), Rosalina Ampong (secretary), RJ Casabuena (treasurer) and Glenville Gonzalez (PRO). The members of the Board of Directors are: Roger Lim, Rebecca Magante, Boy Amistoso and Linda Alvarez.
Silliman alumnus Dr. Laura Julian Pham (BS Chemistry 1975) was recently awarded as one of The 2016 Outstanding Researchers of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) last March 4, 2016, during UPLB’s 107th Foundation Day Celebration. She was recognized for her extensive research work in biotechnology, contribution in the development of commercial production of animal probiotics and enriched copra meal, and work on the tailoring of specialty fats and oils from coconut and pili.
Dr. Pham is an active member of the Silliman University Alumni Association, Inc. Laguna Chapter.
The Silliman University School of Agro-Industrial and Technical Education (SAITE) is giving out 175 scholarship slots in its new certificate program – Contact Center Services NC II. This scholarship is made possible through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. This is open to high school graduates 18 years old and up. This certificate program consists of basic, common and core competencies aimed at preparing students in handling customer complaints and managing inbound and outbound customer care and sales services.
