College of Performing and Visual Arts (COPVA) - Fine Arts Department is calling all interested applicants for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Arts for SY 2024-2025

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art program at the Silliman University Fine Arts Department, College of Performing and Visual Arts provides a strong grounding for the practice of art across a wide spectrum of contemporary forms. The program focuses on thoughtful engagement in the materials, techniques, and histories of art; and on meaningful participation in visual and material cultures here and abroad.

The creative output of BFA Studio Art students includes drawings, paintings, prints, sculptures, works in new media and experimental film, and installation works. Students learn alongside each other in shared studio spaces with access to exhibition opportunities through the Romeo Ariniego Gallery, Silliman University’s on-campus space for contemporary art. The BFA program culminates in a solo exhibition from each graduating student.

All applicants to the Silliman University Fine Arts BFA Studio Art program must submit an organized portfolio of creative work produced by the prospective student within the last two years demonstrating their skills and artistic interests. All submitted portfolios will be evaluated to find the best fit for the limited number of slots in the BFA program.

The Department welcomes the following types of creative work:

a. drawings, paintings, prints, and photographs

b. sketchbook pages

c. sculpture in any three-dimensional medium

d. fabric, fiber, or weaving-based works

e. installation or exhibition projects

f. excerpts from video, film, performance, or other time-based works

Participation in local community arts activities is also appreciated.

Portfolio content must comprise no more than 15 files representing clear documentation of the applicant’s original works or art activities.

For photo documentation, only JPEG files with a maximum resolution of 3000 × 3000 pixels will be accepted. PNG or PDF files will NOT be accepted.

For documentation of time-based works, only MP4, MP3, or MOV files with a maximum duration of 2 minutes per file will be accepted.

Portfolios featuring creative, original works in a variety of different media are strongly encouraged.

Portfolios are to be submitted as part of the applicant’s completion of the BFA Studio Art Application online form. Access to the form will be relayed to the applicant via email once they complete initial admissions processing through the Silliman University Application Portal.

The Department will start accepting portfolios in early June, with evaluation results typically communicated to applicants by mid-July.
