Divinity School celebrates Peace Month
In celebration of Peace Month, the Silliman University Divinity School (SUDS), in partnership with the United Church of Christ in the Philippines and the Presbyterian Church USA, will host “Dugtungan: Celebrating Peace Month and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights” on September 26, 2023.
The event, which aims to promote peace by incorporating human rights education, features a forum, a workshop, and a free concert.
From 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Silliman University Multipurpose Room, Gary Granada will speak at the “Peace and Human Rights Education Forum.” Simultaneously, Dessa Quesada-Palm and the Youth Advocates for Theater Arts will facilitate the workshop, “Peace and Human Rights Advocacy through Theater” at the Chapel of Evangel.
At 6:00 p.m., there will be a free concert at the Amphitheater, highlighting the music of local artists whose works contribute largely to promoting human rights by means of alternative cultural expressions. Among the performers are Paul Galang, Agape Labuntog, Gary Granada, Hope Tinambacan, UGKAT, and SUDS Choir.
Presidential Proclamation No. 675 declares September as the National Peace Consciousness Month. It was issued in 2004 to raise Filipinos’ awareness of and appreciation for the value of peace.
