Education, Nursing students to represent SU in Japan Service-Learning Program

Silliman University (SU), through the Office of Community Engagement & Service-Learning (OCESL), is sending Micah B. Saycon, a second-year Education student, and Claire J. Tenaja, a third-year Nursing student, to the Japan Summer Service-Learning (JSSL) Program to be hosted by the International Christian University, Japan this July 2023.

Saycon and Tenaja will join participants from Middlebury College (USA), Union Christian College (Kochi, India), and Lady Doak College (Madurai, India) in an immersive four-week Service-Learning project with local community partners in Japan.

The selection committee members are Asst. Prof. Emervencia L. Ligutom, former director of the OCESL; Dr. Giovanni T. Macahig, SU registrar and Civic Welfare Training Service coordinator; and Abe P. Cadeliña, Student Organizations and Activities Division head.

Last year’s JSSL Program was conducted online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. SU was represented by Beatriz Ellen Gantela and Isabel Torres who were Entrepreneurship and Creative Writing students, respectively.
