Giant Telco PLDT-Smart Partners with Silliman on LED Billboard on Campus
A digital LED billboard will soon rise near the Information Booth along Hibbard Avenue.
Silliman University and telecommunications company PLDT-Smart Communications, Inc. have tied up on the digital LED billboard envisioned to enhance the information-sharing capacity of the University to the members of both Silliman and the larger community of Dumaguete.
The digital LED billboard is said to be the first partnership of its kind of PLDT-Smart with a university in the Philippines.
Silliman Acting President Dr. Betsy Joy Bustamante-Tan said: “This digital billboard will further bolster our ability to communicate to both our internal and external constituencies information about activities and events on campus, accomplishments of our students, faculty and staff, and relevant advisories, including suspension of classes due to weather disturbances. It will also run multimedia materials that will showcase campus life and the initiatives of the University in the ‘5Cs’ – the five venues of whole person education: classroom, church, athletic court, cultural center, and community,”
Dr. Tan signed the contract on May 7 with Smart Center Head and Assistant Vice President Ms Jacqueline N. Bocalan, with witnesses: Silliman Vice President for Development Prof. Jane Annette L. Belarmino and Director of the Office of Information and Publications Mr. Mark Raygan E. Garcia, and Smart Vice President Mr. Hoyle Raul and Senior Manager Ms Grace R. Ruperto.
After the signing in the Board Room of the Leopoldo T. Ruiz Administration Hall, a groundbreaking ceremony was conducted within the area where the digital LED billboard will be erected. It was done in the presence of some officers and members of the Deans Conference of Silliman University, other officers of PLDT-Smart from both regional and national offices, and the local tri-media.
