Honor Students Challenged to ‘Make a Difference in this World’
Atty. Ivan M. Bandal, a Silliman alumnus who currently works as Associate Solicitor of the Office of the Solicitor General, was the guest speaker for the 60th Annual Honors Day Convocation held on February 12, 2018 at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium.
He told this year’s honor students that “excellence is being able to become the best of what one could be it doesn’t however mean aiming for perfection as doing so would most likely result to constant disappointment” but more importantly, he said, “the pursuit of excellence is also about enjoying what you do and having commitment and passion to pursue whatever you want to achieve.”
Twenty seniors were awarded with University Honors for having been in the upper three per cent of their class in several colleges in the four semesters in which they were considered for junior and senior honors.
One hundred forty six students were also awarded the College Honors for being part of the upper three per cent of the sophomore, junior, and senior classes whose Quality Point Average (QPA) is 3.5 and above.
In addition, those in the upper ten per cent of each class within the several colleges whose QPA is not below 3.25 were awarded Class Honors – 11 freshmen, 15 sophomores, 161 juniors, and 139 seniors were given the award.
Atty. Bandal ended his speech by reminding the students to “dream big, set goals, aim high to make a difference in this world, take risks, and do not be afraid to fail.”
