In celebration of the 123rd Founders Day this month, Silliman University (SU) invites everyone to the 9th Floral Offering for Dr. David and Mrs. Laura Hibbard

In celebration of the 123rd Founders Day this month, Silliman University (SU) invites everyone to the 9th Floral Offering for Dr. David and Mrs. Laura Hibbard, the American missionaries and educators who established Silliman Institute, now SU.

In his historical book titled Silliman University: 1901-1959, Arthur L. Carson mentions, quoting Dr. Hibbard in one of his letters to him, ”There were 15 boys that first morning. The equipment consisted of four desks about ten feet long, two tables, and two chairs, a few McGuffey’s Readers, a few geographies, arithmetics and ninth-grade grammars. I was President; Mrs. Hibbard was the faculty.”

Hosted by the SU Elementary Department annually to kickstart the Founder’s Day celebration, the 9th Floral Offering will be held on August 9, 2024 (Friday) at the statue of Dr. Hibbard fronting Hibbard Hall.

Attendees are encouraged to wear modern Filipiniana attire and to bring flowers for the offering.
