International Confab in May Tackles ‘Mission in Time of Terror’
The International Center for Mission Studies of the Divinity School will host anew the International Mission Studies Conference from May 30 to June 1.
Themed “Answering the Call: Mission in Time of Terror,” the conference brings together multi-disciplinary scholars from around the globe working on the topic of mission, religion, violence, and peacemaking from historical as well as contemporary perspectives. It aims to promote the urgency of re-understanding the Church’s mission and every Christian’s mission in today’s context of violence.
Set to speak are Dr. Wendy Kroeker, professor at the Canadian Mennonite University handling Peace and Conflict Transformation Studies; Shk. Abdulhadie Butuan Gumander, chair of the foundaitonal and advisory council of the Cotabato Islamic Heritage Center, Inc.; Dr. Muriel Montenegro, Coordinator of the Justice & Peace Center in Silliman; and Dr. Josephat Rweyemamu, professor of Missiology at the Divinity School in the University.
When Silliman hosted the conference in 2016, there were around 30 mission scholars and practioners that attended from different parts of Asia, Africa and Europe. The hosting of the conference is done in rotation, usually between institutions in Asia and Africa. Silliman being the International Center for Mission Studies with support from the United Evangelical Mission organizes the Asia leg.
