Miss Silliman reign extends to cover the 2020 goodwill mission
With the restrictions needed to combat the global health crisis, the Dean of Students Dr. Edna Gladys Teves-Calingacion has officially extended the reign of the Founders Day queen, Miss Silliman Alexandra L. Tuale, after a discussion with the Founders Day committee.
“Alex,” as she is fondly called, represented as Miss High School when she won the crown during the 2019 pageant. With the new sash as Miss Silliman 2020 given to this campus beauty who is also an academic high achiever, Alex will reign up to August 2021 when a new campus queen will be crowned.
As a goodwill ambassador, she will be working to promote the programs of the 75th year celebration of the Miss Silliman pageant in 2021.
Miss Silliman, which was started in 1946 with Patria Obsequio of the College of Education as the first queen, is the oldest and the longest still-running beauty pageant; older than Miss World, which had its first queen in 1951, and much older than Miss Universe which was established in 1952.
Chosen as Chairperson of the grand Diamond gathering of former queens next year is Miss Silliman 1983 Maribel Teves-Quimson with Alex as co-chairperson.
This is not the first time that a Miss Silliman reign has been extended. The campus queens of the 1960s had two school years covered for their reign. Two queens had this opportunity to serve for two years: Miss Silliman 1960-1961 Verna Loo of the College of Education and Miss Silliman 1962-1963 Evelyn Paralejas of the College of Business Administration.
