NY State Assembly cites Sillimanian as Outstanding Individual

Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee (OSA) and New York State Nursing Association (NYSNA) Board of Director and Secretary Nella Fe Pineda-Marcon was recently cited by the New York State Assembly as an outstanding individual, worthy of the esteem of both the Community and the Great State of New York, last October 26, 2024.
Pineda-Marcon was honored for her over 30 years of dedication as a member of the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), where she has made significant contributions to nursing and healthcare advocacy. Serving as NYSNA Secretary and on its Board of Directors from 2015 to 2024, Marcon chaired the Climate Justice Committee, representing NYSNA in various state, national, and international coalitions. Her advocacy has championed safe staffing, climate and environmental justice, and healthcare for all. A committed volunteer, she responded as a first responder during Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 and has since led numerous disaster relief and medical missions worldwide to strengthen global health responses and address common challenges faced by nurses. Additionally, as a member of her bargaining unit’s executive committee and a delegate at Mount Sinai Morningside, she has been a steadfast advocate for the dignity and respect of nursing professionals, working to secure strong contracts and fostering leadership among nurses to advance justice and the common good.

Pineda-Marcon completed High School in 1977 and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1981 at Silliman University (SU). She then pursued her medical studies at Perpetual Help College of Medicine, graduating in 1987. She was recognized by SU as an OSA in the field of Disaster Relief and Climate Justice Advocacy on August 28, 2021.
