Sillimanian fashion designer shines at Hollywood fashion show
Silliman University (SU) alumnus and talented fashion designer, Ritchie Teves, whose fashion design journey began amidst the challenges of the pandemic in 2020, has achieved a new milestone by showcasing his latest creations at the Hollywood Prestige Fashion Week 2024.
Driven by a vision to bring his designs to an international stage, Teves made his dream a reality on October 27, 2024, at The Valley Auditorium in North Hollywood, California.
The designs of Teves were brought to life on the runway by everyday working women, including Dr. Elizabeth Susan Vista-Suarez, dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts, at Silliman University (SU).
True to the adage, “Hard work pays off,” Teves has already started making a mark in the fashion industry. His first evening gown creation won the “Best in Gown Award” at Miss Woman USA, while his debut evening gown for a national pageant in the Philippines garnered him the esteemed “Best Designer Award” at Mutya ng Pilipinas.
Teves graduated from SU with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1998. In college, he sang with the Campus Choristers under the tutelage of Dr. Vista-Suarez. He was also a cartoonist for the Weekly Sillimanian.
Throughout his college life, he won various painting competitions, including first prize in the Negros Oriental Mural Painting Art Competition. Upon his graduation from SU, he was awarded the University Talent Award for Excellence in Visual Arts.
Teves’ remarkable talent in fashion illustration earned him first place in an online competition, sparking his passion for the industry and setting his career in motion. Based in Parañaque City, Teves can be reached at [email protected] or on Instagram @ritchieteves.
