Sixth Graders Champ 1st NIR Math Challenge Finals
Sixth graders of the Silliman University Elementary Scool (SUES) bagged the first place in the 1st Negros Island Region (NIR) Regional Finals of the Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge at Kabankalan City on March 31.
Carlos Miguel Angelo S. Salazar and Jev Ulric P. Torres bested 15 other divisions to clinch the championship for SUES.
The Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge is a Math contest for elementary and secondary students in both public and private schools nationwide. It is implemented by the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI), the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines (MTAP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) which aims to contribute in improving the quality of Mathematics education in the Philippines.
It aims to: a) awaken greater interest in Mathematics among elementary and high school students in both private and public schools all over the country; b) encourage students to strive for excellence in Mathematics; c) encourage mastery of basic mathematical skills; d) discover mathematical talents among elementary and high school students; and e) provide students opportunities in leadership and cooperative undertaking.
