SL directors, coordinator attend Asia-Pacific conference
Silliman University (SU) Institute of Service-Learning directors Dr. Enrique Oracion, Prof. Emervencia Ligutom, and coordinator Prof. Cyflor Putong attended the 7th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Service-Learning (APRCSL), June 17-21 at the Singapore University of Social Sciences as part of the Service-Learning Asian Network (SLAN).
With the theme “Service-Learning: A lifelong Journey of Social Responsibility,” SLAN’s biennial conference gathered more than 300 participants from 17 countries for discussions and paper presentations on the given theme, as well as sharing workshops.
Dr. Oracion, director for research, presented a paper at the conference, titled “National Service Training Program as Potential Service-Learning Platform in the Philippines.”
Aside from the plenary and breakout sessions for paper presentations, Prof. Ligutom, SU Office of Community Engagement and Service-Learning director, said service-learning office heads from SLAN member universities met before the conference to share updates and invite other universities to the 8th APRCSL conference in 2021, which will be hosted by Silliman University.
As an organization, SLAN provides service-learning providers and advocates an avenue for sharing ideas on service-learning in the Asia-Pacific region.
