SU Alumni and External Affairs Office leads community health initiative in Valencia

Alumni Update April 27 – May 3, 2026
The Silliman University (SU) Alumni and External Affairs Office spearheaded Amping Chikitings, a collaborative outreach initiative in partnership with SU alumni Ryan Rikaz Ibrahim and Irielle Gerlette Torremocha, held on April 21, 2026, at the Barangay Calayugan Gymnasium in Valencia.
With the theme “A Summer STOP Against Cough and Colds,” the outreach engaged children from the community in interactive learning sessions focused on respiratory health and hygiene.
Torremocha and Ibrahim led storytelling activities and live demonstrations that featured proper handwashing, correct cough etiquette, and the importance of social distancing. These were designed to make health education both understandable and enjoyable for young participants.
As part of the initiative, children also received coloring books and art materials.
The coloring book—written in Cebuano—was developed by Torremocha together with selected students from the SU College of Nursing (SUCN), making the content more relatable and accessible to the community.
Amping Chikitings is an advocacy project pioneered by Torremocha during her participation in Miss Nursing 2025 and later carried into the 78th Miss Silliman.
Originally centered on the theme “Active Prevention of Respiratory Infections, One STOP at a Time,” the project has since reached multiple barangays in Dumaguete City and continues to expand, with this recent activity marking its sixth leg and emphasizing the importance of health awareness during the summer season.
Torremocha, a registered nurse, is a cum laude graduate of the SUCN in 2026 and was named 78th Miss Silliman Headline Girl, while Ibrahim was Mister Hibalag 2024 and graduated summa cum laude from the College of Mass Communication (CMC) in 2026.
