SU confers 1,795 honor students in first in-person Honors Day since 2019

Silliman University (SU) will confer honors to 1,795 students for top academic performance in the 65th Annual Honors Day convocation, April 19, 2023 at the lobby of Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium.

The event, which starts at 4:00 p.m., will also be live-streamed on the SU Facebook page.

Jose Paolo M. Echavez, Agriculture Students Association of the Philippines president and Kabataan Partylist vice president for Visayas, will deliver the Honors Day message as the convocation speaker. He is the first summa cum laude graduate of SU since 2011 when he graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, major in Agronomy degree, and ranked 2nd in the list of top-notchers for the November 2022 Agriculturist Licensure Examination.

Echavez currently works in a project-based partnership under Bayer, a private multinational agricultural company. He continues to pursue his advocacy for food security, devoting his time to various sociopolitical and socioeconomic campaigns led by youth organizations in the Philippines.

The 65th Annual Honors Day convocation is the first Honors Day ceremony to be held in-person since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020.

The 63rd and 64th Honors Day convocation in 2021 and 2022, respectively, were held virtually, while the 62nd convocation in 2020 was cancelled along with other university gatherings.

The Campus Security and Safety Office, in coordination with the Office of Registrar and Admissions leading the annual event, released the Security and Traffic Plan for the convocation:
