In a gathering of private elementary school honor students and student leaders across the country, Silliman University (SU) Elementary School bagged major prizes in the four (4) highly competitive categories during the recently concluded Association of Philippine Private School Administrators and Mentors (APPSAM) 11th National Children’s Assembly and Talent Fair held in Baguio City, on January 25-27, 2024.

“This was SUES’ first time joining a national congress and competition after the pandemic, so it
was a great joy for me to see my students participate and excel outside the classroom,” Harel Jo I. Tia, coach, said of her students.
“It was definitely an experience of a lifetime for them, something they wouldn’t get inside the four walls of a classroom,” she added.
SUES participated in eight events, including the Mathematics Contest, Science Contest, General
Information, Spelling, Essay Writing, Extemporaneous Speaking, Interpretative Reading, and
Madamdaming Pagbasa.
Seven (7) students from the SUES represented the school. Together with the three winning students were Zoe Siena Jul B. Baco (General Information Contest), Khenji S. Barillo (Science Contest), Breanna Castielle Y. Llauder (Essay Writing), and Brixter Y. Poe (Spelling Contest).
SUES teachers Harel Jo I. Tia, Maria Amelia P. Calumpang, and Venancia H. Nuico accompanied the students as coaches.
The event aims to prepare students for future challenges through talks from invited speakers and one another while providing a platform to showcase their respective talents. It featured discussions with guest speakers and student contests.
The plenary sessions emphasized the various aspects essential for children’s development, such as intelligence quotient, emotional quotient, adversity quotient, creativity quotient, moral quotient, and more. Additionally, there were informative sessions addressing resilience-building and exploring social maturity to enhance students’ understanding.
The yearly assembly organized by the Association of Philippine Private School Administrators and Mentors (APPSAM) brings together junior and senior high school students for a dynamic learning experience. It features various plenary speakers who impart valuable insights, equipping the students with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the challenges they may face as emerging student leaders.
