SU Farm to supply milk for DSWD program in NegOr, Siquijor
The Silliman University (SU) College of Agriculture Farm will supply and deliver milk for the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) supplemental milk feeding program in Negros Oriental and Siquijor Province after a successful bid, December 12, 2022.
Rafael B. Nepomuceno, SU Farm manager, represented the Farm in the bidding held at Mandaue City, Cebu.
Under the program, children under the care of DSWD in the following municipalities will be given pasteurized milk for 120 days: Mabinay, San Jose, Siaton, and Santa Catalina. The same will also be given to children under the care of DSWD in Siquijor Province.
The DSWD, in coordination with LGUs, implements a supplemental feeding program for undernourished children aged three to five, which incorporates providing fresh milk and fresh milk-based food products.
The DWSD also prioritizes locally produced milk as far as practicable, which helps boost livelihood opportunities for local dairy farmers and the local dairy industry.
The program is anchored on Republic Act Number 11037 or the “Masustansyang Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act,” which institutionalized a national feeding program for undernourished children in public daycare, kindergarten, and elementary schools to combat hunger and undernutrition among Filipino children.
