SU honors 11 loyal faculty, staff in 2023 Heritage Builders

Silliman University (SU) adds the names of 11 long-serving faculty and staff who have passed on to the Heritage Builders Wall in honor of their dedication and service. Their names will be unveiled in a ceremony on August 26, 2023, 4:00 p.m. at the south lawn of Silliman Hall. 

The 2023 Heritage Builders adopted the theme, “Celebrating the Legacy of Dr. Angel C. Alcala.” Guided by this theme, the selected honorees this year include those who were involved in the Biology Department.

This yearly event honors and acknowledges SU missionaries, administrators, faculty, and staff members who have followed the footsteps of President Emeritus David Sutherland Hibbard and Professor Emeritus Laura Hibbard in leading pioneering missions within a length of service that paved the way to the Silliman campus life and the endless pursuit of institutional excellence.

The Heritage Builders Wall was initiated in 2007 and has honored more than 100 members of the Silliman community.

This year’s honorees for the Heritage Builders are:

  Biology Chairperson and Math Teacher (1910-1919)

• Antonio S. Gabila
  Director of Information and Publications (1955-1977)

• Samuel B. Gregorio
  Van Houweling Laboratory Researcher (1961-1971)

• Pascual H. Kapili
  Education Dean (1967-1981)

• Cresencio B. Lumhod
  Biology Laboratory Technician (1970-2002)

• Agaton P. Pal
  Extension Director (1950-1969)

• Pacita B. Raterta
  Manager, Marine Laboratory (1969-2007)

• Felina A. Tiempo
  Biology Chairperson (1965-1999)
