SU, Japan Foundation, Manila to hold film showing, workshop
Silliman University (SU) and Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM) invite the Silliman community to the free screening of the award-winning Japanese documentary Life Goes On. The film about the aftermath of the massive East Japan earthquake of 2011 will be shown at the Audio Visual Theater on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 1:00 pm.
Life Goes On is a documentary “shedding light on the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake…focusing on Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima Prefectures six years after the 2011 disaster to depict ordinary people who groped their way forward.”
Directed by Yoon Mia and produced by Masuda Yumiko, the movie has won awards at the 2017 Hiroshima International Film Festival, 2018 London International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema, 2018 Nice International Filmmaker Festival, and the 2018 Richmond International Film Festival.
A question-and-answer session will follow the film showing, after which film director Yoon will hold a workshop with a small group of students, primarily from the colleges of Mass Communication, Performing and Visual Arts, and Arts and Sciences.
The film showing and workshop are part of the Japan Film Week, a collaborative event of JFM, the Film Development Council of the Philippines, the Toshiba International Foundation, University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Department of Geography, and SU College of Mass Communication.
The Japan Film Week, a spin-off of the annual Japanese Film Festival, aims to promote Japanese arts, culture, and language among Filipino audiences nationwide.
JFM also has facilitated the showing of other Japan-produced animation, documentary, and feature films in Davao City, Manila, UP Cebu, and Mindanao State University-General Santos City earlier this year.
