SU Library donates books for upcoming renovation
The Silliman University (SU) Main Library invited school divisions, local government units, and the Philippine Army to collect and transport books for school and community libraries starting January 30, 2023.
SU Library Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Manager Rey Dennis Caballero said the books donated by the Library are not part of its active collection.
Caballero said “SU Libro,” the Library’s book donation program established in 2017, usually involved the library staff going to communities and schools to deliver donated books but because of the upcoming renovation of the library building, they instead asked representatives of recipients and those who can help transport the books to come to the library.
“These are free books for school and community libraries and not for the personal use of individuals outside the SU community,” Caballero clarified.
He said they also accommodated requests of SU students to get books but in a limited number. Faculty and staff are also welcome to get books.
“The number of books accumulated through the years from book donations…from alumni and friends with the intention that SU Library will also be the conduit for community donation. Added to these books are also multiple copies, which SU Library has already selected for our active collection. Rest assured that our SU library resources are balanced, current, and relevant, in various formats, reflective of the academic priorities of the university and significant research studies in all areas of discipline offered at the university,” said Caballero.
As of January 31, Caballero said more than 30 recipients are in the queue to get donated books from the library.
“This number of beneficiaries is already more than enough for the number of books available. SU Library will let the public know if we still have books left for other beneficiaries,” he added.
