SU library opens space for creativity
Silliman University (SU) students can now enjoy creative activities and develop projects at the SU main library’s Maker Space, a new area at the third floor for creativity and collaboration.
“[The Maker Space aims to provide] a client-centered learning space in the library which promotes collaboration, innovation, and empowerment of clients’ creation and learning. It supports the values of holistic education and multiple intelligences by focusing on the importance of nurturing and balancing the clients’ differences and preferences,” said Dr. Myra E. Villanueva, University Librarian.
The Maker Space was launched through a series of contests from January 20 to 24, 2020 to promote the use of the area, namely: letter-writing, blackout poetry, calligraphy, photography, and poster-making contests.
“Students can freely use the space to develop their creativity,” said Villanueva.
Board games like chess and scrabble, as well as musical instruments like guitar, ukulele, and beat box or cajon drum are available for use in the Maker Space.
